Trucking companies are instrumental in keeping the United States running smoothly. Every day, they are responsible for safely shipping millions of pounds of goods, waste, and other cargo throughout the entire country. These companies also generate billions of dollars in revenue and help other businesses and organizations do the same.
Although there are numerous trucking companies throughout the U.S., the 10 largest of them are responsible for hauling a substantial percentage of the loads that transit the country.
1. Knight-Swift Transportation
Based in Phoenix, AZ, this large trucking company operates approximately 25,000 tractors and nearly 100,000 trailers. It provides effective one-stop shopping services and generates approximately $6 billion annually.
2. YRC Worldwide
Oklahoma-based YRC has been a heavy hitter in the trucking industry for decades. Originally a taxi company, the company eventually merged with two trucking companies from Canada and the U.S. to form what is known today as YRC Worldwide. Its annual revenue sits at around $6.5 billion.
3. J.B. Hunt Transportation Services Inc.
J.B. Hunt has a long history as a leader and pioneer in the trucking industry. It was one of the first companies to engage in container-based shipping and provides custom freight shipping equipment and high-quality logistical support for numerous Fortune 500 companies. Its annual revenue is nearly $15 billion.
4. XPO Logistics
XPO Logistics has been a major player in the shipping business for nearly 100 years. Originally called Con-Way Freight, XPO Logistics has a presence in over 20 countries across five continents and generates revenue approaching $8 billion per year.

6. Landstar System
As one of the largest trucking companies in the US, Landstar System operates through a network of independent agents. This network allows it to have extensive penetration in local and global markets.
Although it handles all manner of freight, Landstar System specializes in the hauling of heavy loads and specialized items. Revenue generated by the company in 2022 was just under $7.5 billion.
7. Werner Enterprises
Werner Enterprises has been around since the mid-1950s and started as a small freight logistics operation. When the company went public in 1986, it only had 630 trucks as part of its operation.
Today, however, Werner Enterprises boasts over 10,000 tractors and over 25,000 trailers as part of its fleet. It also employs a vast network of independent operators and generates nearly $3.5 billion in revenue each year.
8. US Xpress Enterprises
US Xpress has experienced massive growth over the years. When it started operations in 1986, the company had just 48 trucks in its fleet. Today, it utilizes close to 10,000 trucks and even more trailers to ship goods across the country. Revenue for the business also continues to grow, with 2022 seeing record profits of over $2 billion.
9. Daseke
Based in Texas, Daseke concentrates its shipping efforts in North America and has distinguished itself as one of the largest flatbed trucking operations around. It has a fleet of over 10,000 flatbed trucks, over 5,000 trucks, and numerous specialized trailers.
In 2009, the company’s annual revenue was around $30 million. By 2022, it had grown to an astounding $1.77 billion.
10. CRST (AKA CRST International)

Largest U.S. Trucking Companies: Honorable Mention
One company gets an honorable mention in this blog: Amazon. In late 2019, the company introduced its own line of branded semis to the truck market. Unsurprisingly, many industry experts believe that the online behemoth has the potential to become the largest and most cost-effective trucking company around. Only time will tell.
