Houston, TX Accident Statistics
As the fourth-largest city in the United States – and the most populated city in the state of Texas – it’s no surprise that traffic accidents are incredibly common in Houston. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 68,682 collisions reported during 2019 – a 6% increase over the number of crashes in 2018.
When you break that down, it means there are, on average, 188 car accidents in the city of Houston every single day.
Keep in mind, motor vehicle collisions aren’t the only cause of avoidable injury and death in Houston. Some of the most dangerous industries operate in or in close proximity to the city. Thousands of workers get hurt or die on the job every year. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), there were 56 workplace fatalities in the Houston metro area in the 21-month span between January 2017 and September 2018.
