What is Bellaire, TX Like?
Bellaire, Texas is located in Southwestern Harris County and situated near the city of Houston and West University Place. Bellaire is a largely residential city, leading to its nickname, the City of Homes. As of the 2010 census, Bellaire had about 17,000 residents, with 4,600 families.
Originally, after World War II, the typical Bellaire house consisted of three bedrooms and one bathroom, which was considered to be relatively small. It did, however, contain some wealthier subdivisions with larger houses, such as the Carroll subdivision and Braeburn Country Club Estates.
Parts of downtown Bellaire have been described as having a certain 1950s charm, and are small with residences making up most of the area. A common quirk throughout the city is that many of the streets are named after trees such as Maple, Pine, and Holly.
History of Bellaire, TX
Bellaire can trace its history back to 1908, when it was founded by William Wright Baldwin, the vice president of the Burlington Railroad at the time. Originally, the town was advertised as being a suitable location for farmers. After World War II, the city began to expand rapidly, which led to the construction of several schools and hundreds of additional homes.
In 1992, however, city officials began to realize their tax base was decreasing. They noted that in neighboring West University Place, they had eased restrictions on housing developers, leading to more homes being built and a larger tax base. Bellaire decided to follow suit—the price of an average house in Bellaire went from $75,000 in the 1980s to $500,000 by the mid 2000s.
Although the city is known largely as a residential district, there are a number of commercial high rise office buildings, including AT&T, along I-610.
Things to Do in Bellaire, TX
In addition to residential and commercial activity, Bellaire is also home to a number of parks and other recreational venues such as:
- The Bellaire Zindler Park: Named after Houston journalist Marvin Zindler, houses tennis courts, a pool, and a jogging trail for Bellaire residents.
- Nature Discovery Center: Founded in 1979 and located in picturesque Bellaire, the Nature Discovery Center’s goal is to foster “curiosity and respect for nature through education.” Due to extensive volunteer work and donations, the Center acquired and renovated Russ Pitman Park and turned it into a facility suitable for teaching Houston residents about the joys of nature.
- Evelyn’s Park Conservancy: With a fountain, wildflower hill, and butterfly wall, Evelyn’s Park in Bellaire spans across five acres of land and is a major point of interest in Bellaire. Previously the Teas Nursery founded in 1910, it shut down in 2009, but was purchased by two brothers and gifted to the city of Bellaire under the condition that it would be used as a parkland and that it would be named after their mother, Evelyn.
With so many attractions that draw visitors, it is not surprising that accidents might happen in Bellaire. That is why we are here. Possible Bars to Recovery
The law has rules that must be followed to ensure fairness for all. Two such rules are ones that could affect the likelihood of being compensated for your injury.
Statute of Limitations
Texas law requires that you bring suit for your injury within two years of the accident. This is known as the statute of limitations. If you miss that opportunity, you cannot hold the negligent parties responsible. This is why it is especially important to move quickly and hire a good personal injury lawyer who can get to work on your case as soon as possible.
Comparative Negligence Rule
To ensure that the parties truly negligent are the ones held responsible, Texas law requires that you must not have been more than 50% responsible for your accident and subsequent injury. This is called modified comparative negligence, and it means that sharing most of the blame for your accident will stop you from being compensated.
Talk to us and let us help you understand the rule and if it applies to your case.
