Here are the steps to access and purchase your police report:
Step 1: Access the Texas Crash Report Search and Purchase Portal
Navigate to the Texas Crash Report Search and Purchase Portal webpage. This is where you can access police reports for crashes that occur on any public road in the state of Texas. The first thing you’ll need to do is accept the terms of use for the portal. Read the terms carefully, and then click “Accept” to move on to the next step.
Step 2: Select the Correct Redaction Style and Report Type
Next, the portal will ask you to select a redaction style and a crash report type.
Here are the settings you’ll need:
- Redaction style: Non-redacted crash report
- Crash report style: Certified crash report
A certified crash report includes a “Copy from Custodial File” stamp, the Motor Vehicle Crash Records Custodian’s signature, and the official Texas Department of Transportation seal.
Step 3: Confirm You Are Not a Member of a Restricted Group
The next screen will ask you to confirm that you are not a member of any of the groups that are required to register to purchase a non-redacted crash report.
Select “No, I am not a member of a group listed above – continue for more options,” and then click “Next.”
Step 4: Enter Your Name and User Classification
Only specific individuals can request a non-redacted police report, including victims involved in a collision, a representative of someone involved in a crash, and a parent or legal guardian of someone involved in an accident.
Fill in the fields for your first and last name. Under “Qualification for Certification,” select the option that says “Any person involved in the collision,” and select “Next.”
Step 5: Search for Your Crash Report
You can search for your report by:
- Name: The name of a person or company involved in the crash
- Identification number: The driver’s license number or identification card number of a person involved in the crash
You may need to try both search methods to find your report, especially if you have a common name.
Step 6: Locate Your Report
If your search returns multiple crash reports, ensure that you have the right report by checking the following accident details:
- Date of the crash
- Time of the accident
- Location of the wreck (city and county)
- Names of the individuals involved
The portal generally does not offer refunds for incorrectly purchased reports, so you must verify the information in your report before buying it.
Step 7: Purchase Your Report
Purchase your report using one of the payment types listed in the portal. Once your purchase is finalized, follow the steps outlined in the confirmation email you receive.
