Leonard M. Rubin

Leonard M. Rubin is an experienced trial attorney with more than three decades of litigation experience.

Throughout his career, Leonard has handled complex litigation at every stage—from case evaluation and discovery through negotiation, motion practice, trial, and resolution.

Leonard has served as first chair in more than 400 jury trials, representing clients in a wide range of matters, including personal injury, wrongful death, commercial litigation, premises liability, property liability, criminal law and uninsured/underinsured motorist claims. His extensive courtroom experience has given him a deep understanding of trial strategy, jury selection, witness examination, negotiation, and the practical decisions that can determine the outcome of a case.

In addition to his own trial practice, Leonard has dedicated a significant part of his career to mentoring and training other attorneys. He has taught trial advocacy and litigation skills to hundreds of lawyers, including attorneys from some of Houston’s leading law firms. His training has included jury selection, opening statements, examination of witnesses, closing arguments, motion practice, trial preparation, and the strategic handling of litigation from inception through trial.

Leonard has held leadership positions within major insurance organizations, including serving as Lead Counsel for United Auto Insurance Group and Staff Counsel for State Farm Insurance Company and Allstate Insurance. As Lead Counsel, he managed a litigation office and its staff while maintaining a substantial caseload and overseeing the training and development of attorneys.

Leonard has continued his trial-advocacy education through the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, including advanced trial advocacy training.

What distinguishes Leonard is not simply the number of cases he has tried, but the combination of courtroom experience, strategic judgment, leadership, and commitment to developing other lawyers. His approach is grounded in careful preparation, clear communication, creative problem-solving, and the ability to identify the critical issues that can shape the direction and outcome of a case.

Beyond the Courtroom

Leonard has devoted much of his professional life to the practice of law, and his interests outside the courtroom have shaped the way he approaches advocacy, leadership and relationships. He has a longstanding interest in mindfulness, communication, conflict resolution, and the connection between physical and mental well-being. He completed yoga teacher training and has taught yoga and tai chi in several Houston-area studios and private settings. He has completed extensive training in mediation and conflict resolution. These interests reflect an important part of Leonard’s philosophy: effective advocacy is not only about arguing harder, but involves careful listening, and understanding of different perspectives, and the ability to remain composed under pressure, while finding creative solutions to difficult problems.

Outside of his legal career, Leonard enjoys time diving as a certified diver, hiking in exotic locations, and spending quality time with his son.
