An accident also must be reported if there are one or more victims who require immediate medical attention after an accident. Similarly, truck accidents that cause fatalities are also DOT-recordable. Trucking companies are required to report all qualifying traffic accidents to the DOT, regardless of who may be at fault for the accident.  DOT recording is mandatory for any vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 pounds and travel between states.
